2010, a friday

bought groceries to make horchata cupcakes and greek salad for christine’s picnic tomorrow. first batch of cupcakes got burned :( second turned out great, I think, although I ate one from the first batch, and it was perfectly fine aside from the layer of black on the outside, so maybe they’re all ok?

2009, a thursday

slept in late to rest my aching post-crazy-hike body. made myself an awesome breakfast. drove to glendale to get my iphone fixed - no can do, got a new one instead. successfully reapplied my gelaskin onto the new phone. processed photos, listened to some loudon wainwright, ate my favorite spicy udon soup.

2010, a wednesday

woke up and decided I wanted to go to the beach. packed a little lunch, gathered up my pile of magazines and ‘the lost symbol’, sunscreened up, and drove out to pacific palisades! it was hotter than I expected but felt great to be in the sun. made one of those digiorno flatbread pizzas for dinner and holy crap are those things good - they aren’t kidding with those commercials. and no, they’re not paying me to say this :)

2009, a tuesday

got up earlier than usual (but still pretty late) and did my grueling jillian michaels workout dvd. i have a love/hate relationship with her. tried to fix the wifi on my iphone and failed. did laundry and saw those kids out in the parking area again. successfully called cops. did number puzzles and watched ‘the big bang theory’ until i got tired and went to bed to read.

2010, a tuesday

worked out, met terry and renee for lunch in west la. afterwards, I went to smc and picked up a bookstore order, then met up with renee and we checked out the new mall in santa monica. it’s super nice! we got gelato too. then we went back to her place an hung out for a few hours.

2009, a monday

saw ‘ponyo’ with terry, then drove to the americana to get some puzzle books at barnes & noble. ate coconut pinkberry and people-watched. got some gimbop and noodles at the korean store. attempted to call cops on those kids who make out in our parking spot but was on hold for 5 minutes and finally gave up. after an unexpected nap, started to make some birthday party plans. stayed up late reading ‘the pillars of the earth’.

2010, a monday

worked out. did absolutely nothing productive. headache crept up on me mid-afternoon and got worse and worse, causing me to cancel my awesome star trek related plans and instead pass out for hours on my couch. bleh.

2009, a sunday

slept in then drove to burbank and read and laid out at maria and clayton’s pool. played with chloe and read some more on the porch (’the historian’ is so good i can hardly put it down!) then watched ‘true blood’ (this week’s had so many pay-offs!!) and ate dinner (take out from santa fe café) while m&c went to see ‘district 9′. home for a shower and more reading.

2010, a sunday

bizarrely sore from - walking I guess? delayed reaction from hiking? - so gave myself a break and didn’t work out like a maniac. went back to target - had to exchange a bag of carrots (they were opened! ew!) and ended up picking up a bag of those pretzel m&m’s I’d heard so much about and you can imagine how that’s ended up. pretty much lazed about and watched moves - ‘brief interviews with hideous men’ (book is waaaaay better) and ‘dune’ (both are insufferable). watching ’sneakers’ to cleanse my brain of these disappointments.

2009, a saturday

my first trip to disneyland, (half-) courtesy of maria and clayton! we got there a bit after 10 and stayed until after 9 to see the fireworks which were AMAZING. seems like we rode almost every ride. we wanted to stay longer and redo some rides, but didn’t realize california adventure closed at 9. on the way home we all sang in the car and it was kind of great.

2010, a sunday

worked out, ran errands, met up with maria and megan and all of maria’s stl friends in burbank. got in-n-out, then megan and I hit target while maria took her friends to see the hollywood sign. home, caught up with the internet, enjoyed not being cold and damp for the first time in a week :) took the metro to hollywood & highland and met up with everyone for the hollywood bowl shuttle to see…harry connick, jr!! we sat with a bunch of mark’s friends who were super nice and shared their yummy food with us. the show was fantastic - he played a lot of jazz and funk and really worked the audience. he told stories, played the trumpet, even tap danced! even better, I had a really nice surprise when megan and elaine told me for my birthday, they’d bought me a ticket to see phoenix (grizzly bear is opening!) at the hollywood bowl in september! huzzah! a fantastic day, and a great way to wrap up the first year of this 5 year journal experiment.

dim sum at empress pavilion with terry & heidi. walked around chinatown and heidi bought baby turtles! errands, terrible asian drivers (not me, i drive fine, thanks). new music thanks to eric! yay! ate an awesome peach. ‘district 9′ at the chinese theatre with alex et al and it was FANTASTIC.

2010, a friday

slept in, then eric and I caught the bus down to the metreon. picked up amazing sandwiches from the sentinel - I had the pork loin and it was on the most amazing bread I’ve ever had in my life. we saw ’scott pilgrim vs. the world’, picked up cookies and scones at specialty’s, then I hopped in the car and split town just as rush hour was picking up. made it home in almost exactly 6 hours.

2010, a thursday

breakfast at camp, broke camp, drove down the coast to humboldt redwood state park and did some hiking around the groves. drove back to sf without incident, just in time to see the fog rolling in over the golden gate bridge. showered for the first time in a couple days, then ordered take out sandwiches from the french place down the street and watched random tv shows and videos.
