Um. I want Toby.

Music video for Josh Ritter’s song made with over 12,000 pieces of construction paper!
This is a lovely video of time-lapsed night skies. It features meteors, aurorae, and an original score by Bear McCreary. I highly recommending watching in on Vimeo where you can see it full-screen

A real ad for a real college. Amazing. Watch out though—gets disturbing.
This is a great short film that involves horrible monsters, but manages to make them scary and gross without ever showing one. Pretty great filmmaking. ‘Cost of Living’ stars Brandon Routh and Bret Harrison, and was directed by BenDavid Grabinski. It’s about…security guards? That’s all I’ll say. I recommend watching it on Vimeo and going full-screen.
Priceless. …also if you haven’t seen ‘the Artist’ yet, you should. Or at least rent it eventually. It’s delightful.
Up early. Was going to work out—then remembered it’s Jason Wu day! Went to Target, bought way too much Jason Wu for my (non-existant) budget. Spent the rest of the day doing homework and reading. Watched ‘Star Trek’, IMed with Mom and Renee. Pretty depressed about the temperature and all the snow—going to make for some miserable field geology tomorrow.
PALM SPRINGS!! Got up early, picked up Meghan, and drove to Palm Springs to the Ace Hotel & Swim Club for Emily’s 30th birthday. Jodi was there too, and bunch of Emily’s other friends from college, LA and SF. We hung out by the pool, read, dozed in the sun, drank, ate, and did some mind-blowing people-watching. Watched videos of Erin’s kids, Billi Shakes (wow), and a video Pam made of her patient cat wearing a camisole. I laughed so hard I almost passed out. A fantastic day, with a great bunch of ladies!
something new: Ace Hotel & Swim Club and King’s Highway ‘diner’, which is only a diner in the sense that it’s the most awesome interior ever. The food however, is amazing and not at all diner-y (though I do love a good diner!).
Oh, and also, of course I wouldn’t leave you hanging about the cat video.
drove to picton and toured the ship ‘edwin fox’ and its museum. we got in the vehicle queue for the cook strait ferry and I took a nap. we were finally able to drive aboard the huge cargo/passenger boat and enjoyed a picturesque cruise through the sounds. in wellington, the nzi sevens were on, so crazily-dressed rugby fans filled the streets on the way to the stadium. we took the cable car up to the botanic gardens and walked around the observatory and rose gardens. we ate at the restaurant in the garden then drove to the karori wildlife sanctuary for our nighttime tour. the tour was great and very educational – we saw tree wetas and tuataras and heard some little spotted kiwi but didn’t catch a glimpse. when we got to the hotel the insect bite on my leg which had been bothering me for a few days seemed a lot worse – hot to the touch, swollen and purple – so mom took me to the after-hours clinic. sure enough, my leg was ‘quite infected’ so i was prescribed a load of antibiotics, both oral and topical.
I thought maybe the arc in the floor was for a big safety barrier to shield students from hem experiments. Nope. This blew my mind, but not as much as the guy sitting next to me.
In more Psychic Bunny/Lead Balloon news – the super-secret 360° shoot I worked on a few years ago has also been posted (probably awhile ago – apologies for not being more on top of this!). Social Animal‘s camera rig…was amazing. The SA9 has nine HD cameras pointed straight up at a mirrored rig, all connected to nine MacBookPros. It made for some pretty intense equipment moves/hides and cable wrangling, not to mention the challenges of directing actors in360°. It was a really awesome shoot and I’m glad I can finally talk about it!
You can watch the demo we shot, and a behind the scenes featurette at the Qualia site. Be on the lookout for me! I’m wearing a teal hoodie.
