2012, a monday
Up early. Got ready, had breakfast with Mom while Dad loaded up the car. They dropped me off on campus and we said our goodbyes—I miss having them around already! Class, met with my mapping group for our last day of field geology mapping (on our own, class is already technically over). Had a great time, it was pretty but hot out. Amazing how different the mountain looks in just two weeks—flowers everywhere, trees and bushes that were sad sticks now green and full of blossoms, insects everywhere (which is good and bad). Had a great, bittersweet day until I ate it on Mount Platypus and landed on a rock on my tailbone. Then the day was mostly painful. Luckily I wiped out close to the end. Spent the evening eating Easter dinner part 2, watching tv, and trying to find positions to sit/lay in that didn’t hurt.

Slept in at Cecile’s, then we went to Longman & Eagle for brunch. It. Was. Amazing. First of all, I had lost track of just how terrible the service is in SoCal – hello Midwest, where the hostesses and waitstaff are actually happy to do their jobs! Everyone was so pleasant and friendly. I ordered the strada with sausage, pumpkin brioche, pumpkin seeds, dates, caramelized onion, gruyere, and a sunny-side-up egg. It was heaven – sweet from the dates, cinnamon-y, savory, tasted like autumn-time. Cecile got the fried chicken and waffles with sweet potato and pork belly hash. This must’ve been the biggest organic chicken ever grown because the leg looked like a small turkey leg and the thigh was huge. We also split an order of Nueske’s bacon, which smelledso delicious – super-smoky and delicious with some maple syrup. After we stuffed ourselves (we both cleaned our plates!) we walked back to her place to help digest. My parents were there to pick me up, and we got back to the QC around 4pm, in time to relax for a bit before we headed to Wise Guys Pizza for my cousin Laura’s surprise birthday party. All of my dad’s side of the family was there and it was a great mini-reunion since I couldn’t make it back for my cousin Angie’s wedding a few weeks ago. Ate great pizza – the East coast white pizza with chicken and fresh basil and the reuben pizza (so good, so rich) – and a great chocolate cake with raspberry filling. A great day!
