2012, a monday

Up early. Got ready, had breakfast with Mom while Dad loaded up the car. They dropped me off on campus and we said our goodbyes—I miss having them around already! Class, met with my mapping group for our last day of field geology mapping (on our own, class is already technically over). Had a great time, it was pretty but hot out. Amazing how different the mountain looks in just two weeks—flowers everywhere, trees and bushes that were sad sticks now green and full of blossoms, insects everywhere (which is good and bad). Had a great, bittersweet day until I ate it on Mount Platypus and landed on a rock on my tailbone. Then the day was mostly painful. Luckily I wiped out close to the end. Spent the evening eating Easter dinner part 2, watching tv, and trying to find positions to sit/lay in that didn’t hurt.

Slept in at Cecile’s, then we went to Longman & Eagle for brunch. It. Was. Amazing. First of all, I had lost track of just how terrible the service is in SoCal – hello Midwest, where the hostesses and waitstaff are actually happy to do their jobs! Everyone was so pleasant and friendly. I ordered the strada with sausage, pumpkin brioche, pumpkin seeds, dates, caramelized onion, gruyere, and a sunny-side-up egg. It was heaven – sweet from the dates, cinnamon-y, savory, tasted like autumn-time. Cecile got the fried chicken and waffles with sweet potato and pork belly hash. This must’ve been the biggest organic chicken ever grown because the leg looked like a small turkey leg and the thigh was huge. We also split an order of Nueske’s bacon, which smelledso delicious – super-smoky and delicious with some maple syrup. After we stuffed ourselves (we both cleaned our plates!) we walked back to her place to help digest. My parents were there to pick me up, and we got back to the QC around 4pm, in time to relax for a bit before we headed to Wise Guys Pizza for my cousin Laura’s surprise birthday party. All of my dad’s side of the family was there and it was a great mini-reunion since I couldn’t make it back for my cousin Angie’s wedding a few weeks ago. Ate great pizza – the East coast white pizza with chicken and fresh basil and the reuben pizza (so good, so rich) – and a great chocolate cake with raspberry filling. A great day!

worked out, processed photos, watched the puppet episode of ‘angel’ then saw ‘clash of the titans’ and went to powerhouse with the boys.

2012, a sunday

Easter! Spent all day at my apartment, working on projects with my dad and cooking with my mom. I mean…I watched my mom cook all day. And smelled the amazing smells. I put together my new Ikea shelves (they’re gorgeous! I have so much more storage/display space now!) and Dad moved my posters around and put up my magnet board strips. I put up my favorite cards and photos of friends—it truly feels like home now :) Watched some of the Masters with my dad, we enjoyed an amazing Easter dinner courtesy of my mom and my new crock pot (thanks Mom & Dad!) and toasted the weekend with some wine from our trip to New Zealand. Relaxed with some ‘House’ reruns, ate pecan pie we got from the farmers’ market yesterday. A great end to a great visit!

fantastic Easter dinner

Brown sugar balsamic glazed pork loin, butter and caramelized onion brussels sprouts, baked potato, Mom’s special deviled eggs and her special vanilla fruit salad. Best Easter dinner ever :)

2011, a friday

Up early, errands, packed. First flight went without a hitch, slept most of the way. Saw Kristin Chenoweth getting ready to board my plane; she was tiny and beautiful. Got to St. Louis and found out that my flight had been delayed due to high winds in Chicago. All told, my flight was delayed 2 hours, which trashed the plans I’d made to eat bbq and see ‘Your Highness’ with Cecile and Eric, who drove in from the suburbs for the occasion. Still standing at the baggage claim when the movie started, and then they didn’t even put our bags on the claim, eventually they came around and collected our tickets and retrieved the bags individually (??). An hour after I got into ORD, I walked out to get a taxi and found the line stretched all the way down the length of the terminal. Spent half an hour in line, another half an hour for the drive to Cecile’s. They’re still at the movie but I have a curious Kuma and a sneaky Mochi (after my glass of water) to keep me company! Ok just heard from Cecile – they’re out of the movie and on their way here and we’re going to go to Hungry Brain or something. Also as soon as I got up, Mochi had her head in my water glass.

update: Cecile, Jon and Eric came back to Cecile’s and we stayed up until 3:30am talking, drinking beers and eating candy. I have awesome friends :D

2010, a thursday

went to the getty with megan to see the da vinci exhibit. the exhibit was great, and it was a beautiful day to be outside in such a lovely place. visited with maria for a bit afterwards, then laid low the rest of the night.

2012, a saturday

First day of the Boulder farmers’ market! First Mom, Dad and I ran some errands—groceries, craft store, hardware store, side trip to a European bakery. Then we spent a few hours walking around the farmers’ market, walking up and down Boulder Creek, checking out the Boulder library (it’s pretty great!), while I fantasized about coming back to these places on my bike this summer. Got lunch at the market and listened to a great folk-bluegrass trio play, and oogled a cute baby sitting across from us (her dad was making her ‘dance’). Ran into Mo as we were buying pie for Easter dinner, so I got to give my parents a face to go with the name. Back to my place, some napping might have taken place, along with a few tasks around the apartment. Drove down to Ikea and got a bunch of stuff (new shelving unit for my bedroom! pretty blue glass vase! bench I’m going to use as a shelf for my school books!) then met Chris, Aunt Linnea and Chris’s girlfriend Adrienne at Mama Louise in Centennial. STUFFED ourselves with amazing Italian food, then went back to Chris’s to see the progress he and Adrienne have made on his condo. Back to Boulder, watched ‘Clue’ (had to text Holly) with my mom, and by ‘watched’ I mean ‘slept through’ but I got to snuggle with my mom so whatevs :)

Class, homework, prelab, lab, ‘the Tobolowsky Files’, ‘Off the Map’.

2010, a wednesday

slept in!! did nothing all day. well, i did my taxes, but that was so depressing it counts as nothing. ordered my favorite thai food to cheer myself up. then went to pat and asa’s to get drunk with them and meredith and ethan, and then the plan was to see ‘clash of the titans’ but fandango lied and didn’t have the right showtimes up. instead we went back to pat and asa’s and watched the rest of the ‘buffy’ musical episode and then ‘nightmare on elm street’ which meredith and i had not seen. then watched ‘archer’ and ‘batman: the brave and the bold’.

2012, a friday

Class, spent the afternoon hanging a new whiteboard and moving around my Mars posters. Mom, Dad and I drove out to Nederland to look around the old mining town and browse the shops. I got really carsick on the way back, so ended up taking an hour and a half nap. Mom made steak stir-fry, we watched ‘LA Confidential’.

2011, a wednesday

Class, homework, abandoned homework to study for chem test (big trend this week). Study study study, took the test. Dunno how it went; felt very confident on some questions, had to guess on others. Should catch up on calculus but instead I’m going to watch tv shows and eat yummy food and let my stress melt away.

2010, a tuesday

up early (but thankfully after sunrise) and off to psychic bunny for the last day of shooting. had a great day – got everything we needed and came in on schedule. the short is going to be great! shooting around downtown LA was really cool – totally made me want to move down there. also saw an adorable kitty who lives in the window of a mostly abandoned shop! got home at a reasonable time, went for yogurt with alex, came home and finished my easter leftovers (sadness) and watched tivo’d tng and ate girl scout cookies. i can’t believe i’m still awake.

2012, a thursday

Up early for yoga. Class, actually knew what I was doing in physics! Mom & Dad got into town around 1, and we went to lunch at Smashburger. Spent the afternoon/evening doing projects around the apartment, went to Target to look at patio furniture and to buy a whiteboard, got groceries for Easter Sunday dinner. Dad made his special popcorn (he brought the popper and the bowls and everything!) and we watched ‘Quantum Leap’ reruns on Netflix until bedtime.

2011, a tuesday

Class, homework, abandoned homework to study for my chemistry test. Eventually burned out and watched some ‘Raising Hope’.

2010, a monday

got up at 430. spent 14 hours on set. did not sit down between when I got out of the car in the (very early) morning and probably 1pm. had a great time though – this short is going to be fantastic! watched dailies after we wrapped, then came home and ate a ton of easter leftovers, finished up ncaa tournament site admin, and tried to stretch my aching calves and feet.

2012, a wednesday

Class, last field geology class—learned about the geological history of the Boulder area! Really interesting but super long. Spent the night doing homework, reading, cleaning up the apartment for Mom & Dad’s visit tomorrow! Had that weird dream again about the apartment and the missing brother and the box of stuff and the spiral pattern on nails on the floor and the time travel/alternate universe thing.

2011, a monday

Class, homework, studied chemistry a bit. Chemistry test review, wrapped up the family’s March Madness tournament, listened to some ‘the Tobolowsky Files’, forced to bang on the wall at almost midnight to get the (very talented but this one time, inconsiderate) musicians next door to stop playing. Had test anxiety dreams. Great.

2010, a sunday

slept in. it was glorious. got ready, went to maria and clayton’s. called my family. had an awesome day eating amazing food and hanging out with good friends. we were interrupted early on by the big earthquake, but it was not very alarming up where we were, more like ‘hm. this is happening. interesting.’ it did not at all interfere with our having a good time and eating way too much food.

2012, a tuesday

Class. Skipped the optional Sed/Strat lab and read physics all afternoon. Physics homework all night until after 10.

2011, a sunday

Yoga, calculus homework. Walked down to the Thai New Year Songkran Festival and picked up lunch – chicken bowl with noodles and Thai sticky coconut rice with mango! Studying chemistry for my test this week; am trying not to be nervous about it but am doing an awful lot of stress eating.

2010, a saturday

got up at 5am, on set by 6:30am. ac’d for pat and asa’s rainbow project (rainbow stalks mopey girl!). had a great time – we all got lunch together afterwards and then I helped pat and asa load all of the equipment into asa’s office. quick stop home to check mail and grab box #1 of easter baskets and my computer. drove up to maria’s and did camera logs and monitored the ncaa games while the ladies made pies for easter dinner. tried not to fall asleep. watched ‘an education’. drove home and changed for angie’s easter egg dyeing party. played with bunnies and dyed two eggs! home, exhausted, desperately urging myself to stay awake on the drive home.

2012, a monday

Back to the grindstone. Brain was not quite ready for it. Extra long semi-excruciating indoor lab for our last field geology class. Would’ve been more cathartic if there wasn’t still more to do on my own, and I didn’t still have to worry about the final project. Spent the rest of the night eating and watching the new ‘Game of Thrones’. It was good.

2011, a saturday

Did chemistry homework/studying all day and night. Took meal breaks and that’s it. Am now in need of a brain massage but still have so much more to do.

2010, a friday

worked out, put together easter baskets for sunday. did not much else. posted some photos, went to bed early so I could get up early for saturday’s shoot.

2012, a sunday

Homework, slogged through some astronomy reading that made my head hurt. Out on the balcony for awhile—over 80° so didn’t stay out long. Reviewed some parts of ‘Game of Thrones’ and started watching another show but the power went out. Lit a bunch of candles but the novelty wore thin once I realized it wasn’t coming on any time soon and this meant I definitely would not be watching the new ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘the Killing’ tonight. Went to bed early and did puzzles by candlelight until the power came on at near midnight.

2011, a friday

Yoga, errands, saw ‘Sucker Punch’ which was terrible. Met Jula and Renee in Westwood for ‘Source Code’ (muuuuuuch better) and had dinner with them beforehand.

2010, a thursday

slept in, helped doug a bit with his april fools day prank. didn’t really do anything all day except eat. I guess I also went to the post office and trader joe’s, so I got something accomplished. also got a package from my parents with girl scout cookies! immediately ate a bunch. went to ‘lost moon radio’ and it ROCKED. stayed after for live band karaoke to see kenneth and susan do ‘ghostbusters’ then ended up staying until basically the end to see dustin do his song but then he never got to do it. sang loudly in the car on the way home.

The cutest of photographic surprises!

“As I looked through the camera lens, I could see something creeping in to the frame,” Britain’s Telegraph news website quoted him as saying. “When I realized it was a baby sloth, I clicked the button as fast as I could — not that he was going anywhere fast.”

More on CBC News.

2012, a saturday

Slept in, did yoga, ran errands. Did laundry, attempted to do some homework (brain still in vacation mode apparently), got a haircut (maybe it’s too short? we’ll see tomorrow). Spent the rest of the night catching up on TV, talking to Mom, looking up and booking summer flights, and updating my 5 year journal posts.

2011, a thursday

Up early for calculus test. No idea how I did. To the Grove to pick up shoes and buy a replacement plate for one that cracked in the microwave (???). Home, prelab, exhausted and really want to skip lab, especially since it’s going to be a long one.

update: Well, lab got a little exciting when our professor almost killed us.

2010, a wednesday

worked out, got the rest of the stuff I need to make easter baskets. picked up susan for her happy hour at lola’s and had their awesome empanadas. went to ethan’s (very first) stand up and he killed it! the whole show was pretty great overall. afterwards, renee, terry, doug and I went to canter’s for cake and fries.

2012, a friday

Packed up and headed for the airport. Eric and I got sausages (Oregon Smokies!) then checked out some stores while waiting for our flights. Got back to Colorado where it was sunny and over 70°—quite a change! The bathroom remodel wasn’t quite done—there were still some workmen finishing things up, so I took the opportunity to get groceries and pick up dinner. Had to make a late night run to get a shower curtain.

something new: Good Dog Bad Dog

2011, a wednesday

Class, spent all afternoon studying for my calculus test. Chemistry, home to study more.

2010, a tuesday

worked out, did a german lesson, watched ‘castle’ (“i was aiming for his head”) and…that’s about it.

Eric showed me this while we were in Portland and I could not look away.
