2011, a friday

Class, errands, calculus. Then: a night off from responsibility in anticipation of a weekend locked inside studying and coding. I opened a bottle of Cupcake wine, put together a grand cheese plate, and caught up with ‘Warehouse 13′ and ‘Eureka’. Chatted a bit with Renee, watched some ‘Adventure Time’ – fantastic night.

class, worked out, made a really good chicken pizza using the homemade pesto elaine gave me for my birthday! homework, class, drafted letter to my landlord re: building security.

2009, a wednesday

got up early to meet terry to see the cheap showing of ‘all about steve’. i know i know! the movie made no sense. good message, poor execution, at least bradley cooper didn’t play a jerk again. we got some korean bbq and i got my new zealand guide book. we went back to terry’s for awhile to kill some time (i took a little nap) then drove to westwood village for the ‘whiteout’ premiere. first we got really terrible seats – second row from the front, all the way to the left. we managed to score seats in the balcony just before it started though, so huzzah! i had a hard time evaluating the movie though, since i’d read the graphic novel on which it was based.

Movies I love but am scared to re-watch for fear of them not being as magical as I remember:

  • Memento
  • Moon
  • the Prestige
  • How to Train Your Dragon
  • Inception
  • District 9
  • the Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
  • Easy A

2011, a friday

Slept in, yoga, took car to the shop, hung out at the Americana and had blood orange Pinkberry and sat by the fountain and enjoyed the sun. Home, ate half a Crumbs cupcake for dinner, surprise invite to see ‘Rango’! Went with Cameron, Steve and Kirk and it was The Best Movie I’ve seem since ‘Easy A’ or ‘Inception’ or maybe even ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. Completely amazing, and during the Ride of the Valkyries scene I realized I had this huge, open-mouthed stupid grin on my face, I was enjoying it so much. Also I did a lot of laughing when no one else in the theater was laughing but WHATEVER IT WAS AMAZING.

worked out, processed photos, took advantage of the beautiful day and sat out on the stoop and read. got a little chilly so came inside and read. made really good chicken tacos for dinner. walked to the actors co-op and saw dave’s production of ‘wit’ with renee and terry, then the four of us went to 101 diner. walked home, and i know this is really pretentious, but listened to my new favorite miles davis album and totally loved on la for the whole walk.

If you’re on Facebook, there is some crazy memory lane action happening on my wall about a movie I’ve always had stuck in the back of my mind but couldn’t remember the name of…and whenever I’d try to describe it, I’d get stared at like I was a crazy person. Discussion at Facebook, wherein I find out one of my friends remembers this movie too (!!!!), and a synopsis + screencaps from ‘the Hugga Bunch’ movie at some totally random website I found on a Google search for “movie magic peaches mirror”.

Yes.

last night i went with elaine to the warner bros. employee screening of ‘terminator salvation’ at the chinese theatre. the movie was pretty good despite having to sit in the third row, but i knew that getting out of the parking garage was going to be a nightmare. my solution? after i parted ways with elaine i made a bee line for beard papa’s at the hollywood & highland center. i carefully balanced my eclair cream puff as i paid for parking and rode the crowded escalators, and ate it while i sat in my car inching forward in the long line snaking up the garage ramps. it was glorious, and every time someone would walk past i’d be caught in the act of taking a big, messy, creamy, oozy, melted-chocolate-everywhere bite and i totally didn’t care. go ahead and stare, citizens! bet you wish YOU’D thought of this before you came all the way down to your car! the time in the line flew by. this will be my modus operandi for crowded parking garage exits from here on out.

i can’t wait to see it again. might go tomorrow. it was SO GOOD. and funny! and heart-wrenching! amazing. and spock and uhura? so. hot. together.

god i was going to watch the season finale of ‘dollhouse’ but i don’t know if i can handle that much awesomeness in one night.

update: oops, forgot – we also saw nancy walls at the movie. pretty sure it was her.

as told by mike

the new trailer was shown in front of ‘i love you, man’ and OMG!!!!!!
