today at cute overload they have a great video of a manatee squishing his nose against the glass at an aquarium and another was linked from the comments.

yesterday was nako and jyl’s birthday beach party. it was great! the heat index was about 105, but that just made the water feel that much cooler. i tried to get rid of my strong tan line from the tank top i wore to the first day of intonation music fest, to no avail. there was delicious watermelon, dragonflies i first mistook for birds due to their freakish size and a super-gay rainbow kite charlie bought for nako. i need to purchase a proper bathing suit so i can go more often!
today the office softball team, the flameguts, won our first game of the season. sure it was the last game. sure we won by playing against ourselves because the other team didn’t show up. BUT WHATEVER. still a victory, and it was the most fun game of the whole season.

kara: …what are you pointing at?
charlie: the tapes ‘n tapes poster!

charlie: right THERE!

charlie: [points at poster just above a tall stack of boxes] THERE with the TREES on it
kara: OH – from where i’m standing, i can only see the very tops of the ‘t’s
charlie: [squats way down to my height] oh…yeah. sorry.
last night i actually had a dream about work. and not one of my usual crazy dreams where something cool happens like a spaceship materializes in the office, or someone blows up something or there’s an earthquake and we’re all forced to survive using only our wits, large design library and emp-blasted macs.
no, i had a dream about actual work. about sitting in front of my computer and coding – about talking to dawn about the status of a project. i woke up more tired than when i went to sleep because my brain had basically been working all night. LAME.

eric: i want to write a song called “i wanted to write a song with the most emo title ever but this is all i could come up with (on such short notice)”
last night i was playing some marathon standard tetris on my gba sp (my favorite make-me-sleepy activity) when suddenly the game was interrupted…by a message that said “YOU WON!” (and some other stuff trying to get you to play again…starting from level 1. to hell with that, i always start at level 5). i thought tetris just went on and on without end until your thumbs disappeared in a haze of motion-blur and friction-smoke! …but i guess after you clear level 15 you’re done. yay! i guess i truly deserve my tetris merit badge.
this weekend eric was in town so he scheduled that flying lesson i gave him for his birthday. it was cool – we went up in a little single engine cessna and eric got to do the take off and everything! got some photos, but it was pretty hazy on saturday so we’ll see how they actually turned out. yesterday charlie and i went to the botanic garden and saw like 50 bunnies. they were EVERYWHERE and totally not afraid of people. i think i have 10 photos of flowers and 30 photos of bunnies. photos from this weekend, last weekend’s trip to brookfield zoo and the arboretum will hopefully be posted this weekend be posted a month late. sorry.
also this past weekend – jeremy’s going-away bbq, devin’s solo acoustic show, the swindler bros. birthday party, and ‘a scanner darkly’. sadly, no genderqueer fashion show or dawn’s softball game, but there’s always next weekend for that (softball game, not fashion show).
