new photos! see a few shots from lombard’s lovely lilacia park – lindsay’s picnic last friday.

also, today i spent the day with eric’s family in the western suburbs. we spent the whole day at the brookfield zoo.* afterwards there was swimming at eric’s mom’s house, buona beef and jim’s hockey game. his team lost, but the game was exciting. it was the first hockey game i’d ever seen and i thoroughly enjoyed it!

* – note: not all photos will be visible unless you are one of my flickr contacts and marked as ‘friend’ or ‘family’

i’ve posted a handful of new photos to flickr – some photos from an assignment during winter 2001 and a few more snapshots from college.

this weekend ben and sara are in chicago for a baptism and they’re crashing at my place. they had yesterday to hang out so sara when downtown to visit some of her old co-workers and ben and i drove up to evanston to meet mark and eric.

ben and i found mark in urban outfitters and he insisted on us finding some clothes for him. eventually he ended up buying a shirt with a backwards franz ferdinand logo. ben and i got some ice cream at the cold slab creamery and we went to that little mexican cafe to sit and get something for mark. we got the seven salsa sampler and mark got a margarita. after eric got off work he met us at the restaurant then we went to the century theater to see ‘charlie and the chocolate factory.’ johnny depp was hilarious, but the movie as a whole was a little odd.

after the movie ben went to pick up sara downtown and mark, eric and i went to the jewel on chicago for beer and wine. we all met up at el tapatio for mexican food and margaritas. jon called while we were there so ben and sara picked him up and we all reconvened at my apartment for drinks and music and trying not to fall asleep. we watched some family guy on the tivo and the guitar was passed around – it was a great night.

photos from yesterday are posted on my flickr page.

at last, i have processed all the photos i promised you weeks ago.

alas, while organizing the photo backup on my firewire drive i discovered over 100 unprocessed photos from the office graduation party that was thrown for kate, kyle and me. i’ll get those posted…um, soon? (maybe)

now available for viewing: las vegas photos and a few new snapshots from earlier this year and this past christmas. also, pics from matt and trevor’s birthday party this past saturday.

check out the ‘photographs’ tab for photos from LA, primarily the Getty.

los angeles was awesome. i had a great time and got to hang out with some people i hadn’t seen in awhile. friday eric picked me up at the airport and we went to lunch at home, a nice restaurant near jon and maria’s apartment. after we checked into the magic castle hotel (in the hollywood hills – amazing view of the city) we met up with darren at his house. he took us to the farmers market and the grove, which was one of the creepiest and surreal places i’ve ever been in my life. we ate delicious crepes and saw the inside of the grove movie theater, where the cheapest ticket price is something like $9.50.

after that eric and i drove to the in-n-out burger in burbank and met jon and maria. then we followed them up to their friends’ house for a game of mafia. this is, perhaps, the coolest game ever. 15 or so people showed up (usually they do this weekly) and the first game lasted almost 2 hours. these people are serious about this game. it was on one hand a great way to meet new people and on another, a really horrible way, because as jon pointed out, this game could also be called ‘lie to your friends.’ that first day i was awake for almost 24 hours and i haven’t quite recovered.

saturday eric and i ate at baja fresh, satisfying a jones that has been long neglected since the evanston location closed. afterwards we drove to the getty and looked at the gardens and architecture. the getty is beautiful, but oddly the collections inside weren’t that interesting. that is – they weren’t that interesting to me, but then again, i am way more interested in architecture than rococco furniture.

saturday night jon, maria, eric and i went to the California Science Center for the Body Worlds exhibit. Body Worlds was incredibly fascinating. We spent at least 3 hours there, and I was only through a quarter of the second area (which was much larger than the first) when the 10 minute warning was called. Sadly, I had to rush through the rest, but the whole thing was spectacular. After Body Worlds we met up with meghan and josh and jordan for dinner at Palms Thai, where Thai Elvis sings on friday and saturday nights. Both he and the food were excellent.

Sunday Jon, Janet, Eric and I went to The Coffee Table for lunch. this was the only day it really rained. we hung around there until it was time for eric and i to drive to LAX for our evening flight.

The one thing i really noticed is that every other conversation in l.a. has to do with driving – the best way to get someplace, what way you came, your car, etc. super boring. that and the smog (also driving-related) were my only complaints. oh, and the fake grass. we call those ‘weeds’ where i’m from.

check out the ‘photographs’ section for all the photos from the trip, captions and all. in the meantime, enjoy these delicious meat pies.

new photos are up! just a few this time – the ones that weren’t too badly out of focus or dark. check the photos page my flickr account for pics from Ozzie & Jesse’s wedding, DDR at my birthday party and a few shots from the Mosquitia photo shoot.

photos available!!! Relay for Life, Stefapalooza!

thursday night i caught the train home. mom made one of my favorite dinners (maple sausages with fried potatoes and peppers). friday i had lunch with g&g, met with an investment planner and sat outside and read all afternoon. that night mom and i went to the augustana track to walk in the relay for life with my g&g. my grandpa had cancer just before i came along. it was a cool experience – there were luminaries for each survivor and for others as remembrances.

afterwards, mom and dad and i watched the olympic opening cermonies. i almost had to hit mute once my (least) favorite singer started up, but i liked the big map of the world thing. i have to take issue though with the design of the olympic cauldron, which looks like it should’ve been designed for the amsterdam games. it looks like a 100 foot tall joint, i kid you not.

saturday mom and i ran some errands then she and dad drove me to stefapalooza in morris. stef’s birthday party was…awesome.

her parents have a big swath of land, all meticulously mown. there a nice area where the tent city sprung up, a swingset and, since no country home would be complete without it, a big gas tank. jon had never seen a gas tank in someone’s yard. i guess this is normal to me?
