i liked it. the end.

just kidding. ok it had problems – a couple of times i was taken out of the movie by how ridiculous things were getting or a line that was over the top, but overall? it was a lot of fun. it was non-stop action and i hate that i have to admit this, but i even liked shia labeouf in it (typing that phrase hurt. a lot.). harrison ford looks his age, yes, but he still kicks ass. the set pieces in this movie are insanely cool. the thing with the big staircase? my parents and i were in the stage at warner bros where it was shot, so that was kinda neat.

maria and i saw it by ourselves because for some inexplicable reason, clayton didn’t want to see it. i know – we’re all confused too. how can you NOT want to go see indiana jones? IT’S INDIANA JONES. everyone! you should go see indiana jones! i feel bad for the x-files movie though. indy totally beat it to the punch.

update: watching ‘raiders of the lost ark’ and oh my sweet lord harrison ford is hot. no – he’s hawt.

update: photos

it’s cold in san francisco. like, real cold. wasn’t it just unbearably hot here? wha happen’d? when i got to this coffee shop (no free wifi at hotel) i was sweating from hauling my huge work laptop up the hill so i ordered an iced tea. now i’m shivering in my coat, ready to put on my scarf, and giving my iced tea the evil eye. i’m actually considering ordering some coffee just to warm up. me. coffee. *shudder*

why am i in sf? yesterday morning arden invited me along on her trip (she’s doing some training), and since i only need my laptop and an internet connection to work, why not? we left last night (after cameron and i looked at apartments and houses – they were all way better than expected) and got to the hotel at 1am. we’ll be here until wednesday night, and so far – aside from the staggering cold (and really, it’s not even that cold) – it’s pretty great. there are buildings here made from REAL BRICK, how novel. clearly i’ve been away from the midwest for too long.

tonight ian is driving into town from sacramento, picking up eric on the way, and we’re all going to hang out. there are some galleries around here arden and i want to check out, including the sf g1988! they’re having a sale too, so maybe i’ll buy some more art to add to my collection. also? joyriding in ian’s A4. maybe we can have some street races! ian in his A4 versus arden in her TT! ok, DONE. this night is all sewn up.

…was awesome! it was so much fun and i must read the ultimates again. also? the incredible hulk? can’t wait.

last night pat and i met meghan and josh for dinner at the crepe vine in pasadena. it’s meghan’s favorite place to eat in that city and an excellent choice – the carnitas flatbread pizza was delicious and the duck confit crepe was one of the best things i’ve ever tasted. pat and i had a great bottle of wine and we all split a nutella-strawberry crepe for dessert. after dinner we went to lucky baldwin’s for some beers then to neomezé for cocktails. on the way back to the car – the best pistachio gelato i’ve ever had. a fantastic night. and tonight? IRON MAN.

just got back from the live screening of ‘this american life’ and it was so so good! the hangman and anagram pre-show animation (that replaced the typical pre-movie trivia slideshow) was funny and clever and the show itself was fantastic. some outtakes and clips were shown from the new season of the showtime tv series version of the show – the chris ware clip was adorable and the segment about the ‘ask an iraqi’ booth was brilliant. and, as pat predicted, i totally have a crush on ira glass now. i can’t wait to see the new season on sunday night!

thanks to everyone who voted – it all paid off! matt won the heinz top this tv challenge!! by odd coincidence matt is in LA this weekend, so i’ll be sure to buy him a drink.

his commercial, ‘now we can eat’ will be shown on national tv in may. congratulations!!

the getty, mullholland drive, sunset, beverly hills, rodeo drive, nate ‘n al’s, malibu, point dume, neptune’s net, lala’s grill, golden apple, project: gallery, beer brewing, in-n-out, warner bros. studio tour, old town pasadena

…was monday the 7th, sometime after i got back from wii-purchasing at target. that was the day when someone broke into my car in my building’s garage and stole my super cool expensive alpine stereo. it was the most polite robbery ever: no broken glass, no torn wires, nothing taken except the stereo, my emergency credit card and maria’s costco card. so all in all, it turned out ok. i got my check from the insurance company today and it’ll cover the cost of a similar model (they’re now much less expensive since ipod connectivity and in-unit control is more prevalent) but the downside?

not only did i find out on possibly the worst day of my life since i’ve moved out here (post possibly-hormone-induced verbal diarrhea to a loved one and pre-gyno appointment – ‘just relax.’ yeah. sure.), but i have to commute every day in total silence.

do you know what that’s like? to sit deadlocked in traffic on a 12 lane highway with nothing to while away the time but the sound of the neighboring car’s squeaky fan belt or – seriously this was disturbing – their creaky clutch? it’s terrible. my whole driving experience is a lot more irritating now. i am acutely aware of every time i get cut off or someone doesn’t use their signals. maybe this is the key to preventing road rage – listening to enjoyable music. sure, i sing to myself, but it’s a hollow sort of experience with no backing band or professional singer to bolster my self-confidence. i am however, getting really good at the chorus of ryan adams’ ‘when the stars go blue’. it’s the only part of the song where i know the words (hint: it’s just the title of the song over and over) so i just sing it ad nauseam (my nauseam, let me assure you).

this morning clayton texted me to tell me wiis were in stock at the burbank target. i threw on clothes and rushed over – and i finally got my wii! i have it set up and ready to go, and have vowed not to play until lunch but it’s really really hard to not go crazy with wii sports. hooray! wii!

today i took my mom and dad to nate ‘n al’s in beverly hills for lunch (corned beef, pastrami, honey smoked turkey). as we were standing near the door waiting for a table i was kind of zoning out (as usual) and when i came to i realized i must’ve been doing the thousand-yard stare in the vicinity of this guy because suddenly our eyes met.

AND IT WAS BRENT SPINER. and inside? i was LOSING MY SHIT. but on the outside – totally casual as if i hadn’t just realized i was standing five paces away from DATA, EVERYONE. DATA! and he’s just, you know, sitting there having lunch with a friend like he’s a normal person and not also DATA.

so i point him (DATA!!!!) out to my mom (being sure to tell her to ‘be cool’) and to my dad as well (me: ‘be cool dad – be cool’; dad: ‘who is this guy again?’). after awhile we’re seated, and our table is around the other side of them and slightly behind so i can finally see who brent spiner (who is taller than i thought) is having lunch with…

AND IT’S MICHAEL DORN. WORF, PEOPLE! – WORF. and can i tell you? he is totally adorable (wireframe glasses!) and totally hot. and tall. and hot. did i mention hot? and my day? MADE.

you have no idea how hard it is not to ditch my parents right now so i can watch some ‘first contact’. seriously, i’m barely holding it together.

update: more trek fun for you – tng for comic relief, original series fun, my favorite episode of reading rainbow aside from the one where levar is sent on a birthday quest.
