Archives for the month of: March, 2009

traffic was pretty gross today (as usual) and i let a bmw make a left turn in front of me. to my delight, as it went by the youngish new-wave-hipster held up a little sign (like one of those cardboard promo fans) that was a big yellow smiley face and had ‘THANKS!’ printed across the bottom. i laughed out loud. it made my day.

i’ve been wanting to try it for years and finally i know someone who can teach me. tonight i met evan at his rock climbing gym, Rockreation, and it was great! by the end i felt like i was doing some things right, and i think with practice and building up my arm and finger strength, i could be pretty good. next: trying it outdoors!

the cherries in these archer farms chocolate chip cherry oat cookies are a lit-tle toooo tart. zow.

OMG BEST THING EVER! i love riker’s reaction, and how uncomfortable/disappointed deanna and beverly look.

many years of never-ending comment spam forced me to close comments on my site, so i finally decided to make the switch to wordpress. hopefully nothing is broken or weird looking, but if it is, please let me know in the comments. any links to the old version of this site will be redirected as they come up, so don’t worry about those unless they’re still 404ing after a week or so.

i know a lot of you are disappointed to see the old site design go, but hopefully the increased speed, flexibility, and ability to comment and search will make up for it. perhaps i will reinstate the old design, or come up with a new custom design in the future, but for now – baby steps. let’s make sure this new architecture is stable first 🙂

update: i’ve tweaked the design a bit to change the format of shorter entries and display the time of each post. some other little changes here, but mostly nit-picky stuff that only i would notice.

i redeemed some of my discover card cashback bonus today. huzzah! i always forget it exists and then it’s like free money – and shopping spree time! except this go-round, i traded in my bonus for a $45 CVS gift card so i can pay for my birth control.

i can’t tell if this is something that should make me feel proud and responsible, or just sort of old and pathetic. maybe it would be easier to decide if i were actually seeing any action, if you know what i’m sayin’ [wink wink nudge nudge].

…aaaaand all of my relatives who read this just gouged out their mind’s eye.

this week maria’s sister-in-law, adele, and her friend hee jin are in town for a visit. today they picked me up and we had lunch in koreatown at a nice restaurant called so hyang. then we drove up the coast to malibu and took photos around point dume. it’s the first time i’ve been out there and haven’t been knocked over by the wind – the weather was great on the coast, although i guess it was raining in LA. we watched a lone duck diving in the ocean and saw lots of dogs playing on the beach. we drove back through the valley to hollywood & highland, checking out the green hills and giant mansions on the way. at h&h we checked out the kodak theatre, the stars, and the yellow carpet and owl ship for the ‘watchmen’ premiere (which elaine spent all day helping to set up). we walked down to the egyptian theatre and saw a big crowd – ‘the mentalist’ was on location on hollywood blvd of all places – something really cool for adele and hee jin to see. maria and me, too! we watched simon baker be enigmatic and robin tunney be gorgeous for awhile, then walked back to h&h to take pics of the hollywood sign.

tonight: probably pass out early due to the long weekend of drinking and being out late, and having to get up earlier than usual for my internship tomorrow. also i might eat a load of these sugar cookies i made since i forgot to give them to maria. maybe i should also get caught up on ‘battlestar galactica’ since there are only three episodes left. three! gah!
